Worth A Thousand Words

…and my ties are severed clean,
the less I have the more I gain.
Off the beaten path I reign,
rover, wanderer,
nomad, vagabond,
call me what you will.

Metallica~ Wherever I May Roam

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Sometimes, the image is priceless; producing a wealth of emotion; a single vista upon which is etched such a depth of feeling that a thousand words would fall far short of an explanation.

I saw that, late last night.

Him And Her

Sitting at work, on a Wednesday just the same as every other day this week, a sound catches my attention. It is so far from the normal sounds of car horns and train whistles that I am suddenly rolling my chair back and making my way to my office door before I’ve even had a chance to think about it, lured by a sound that is as familiar and loved as it is unexpected in this place, at this time.

What is that? Could it be? Is it really?

Yes it is. Canadian Geese.

Trial By Water

Stranded in the spooky town
Stop lights are swaying and the phone lines are down
The floor is crackling cold
She took my heart...I think she took my soul
With the moon I run

Far from the carnage of the fiery sun
~ Kings Of Leon

The mountain tested me, in 1996.

It tossed out a blizzard AND a flood…within seven days of each other. Yes- I said SEVEN days apart.

Throw Aways

One of my greatest friends is a "thrown away" dog.

That’s a harsh term, and his former owners might not see it that way…but in its most simplistic form, the term applies. For reasons I’m sure they felt completely justified in, they decided he wasn’t worth the trouble it would be to keep him. In all fairness, there were extenuating circumstances in his case, and to their great credit they did turn him over to a rescue - but they made the hard choice to let him go, nonetheless. I was in that position once too, for different reasons, so I’m not casting stones.

Don’t be surprised. It happens every day.

A Playful Heart

It’s so important to keep a place in our hearts for child-like wonder to make its home; a place where innocence and the spirit of play can live out their days far away from the cares and stress of the adult world.

There are a lot of experts in the field of “finding your bliss” today. Over and over we hear about the importance of fidelity, honesty, (BLAH, BLAH, and BLAH) and the never far from the top of the list- selflessness… There’s an endless barrage of books written on the subject…ineptly termed “self help” books. I think that’s hilarious.

And sad.

The Woman In The Moon

Throughout recorded history, the moon has been a symbol of beauty, fertility, and of the Great Feminine Archetype. While men worshipped the sun, plotted the course of the planets and chased the glory of war, as men are wont to do, women looked to the moon in quiet contemplation, and danced beneath its glow.

Sheltered within the Pagan religions, women were the daughters and sisters of the moon, and they observed its cycles to find the meaning and direction concerning their own life journey. The knowledge that the cycles of their lives mirrored those of the moon compelled them to strive for deeper clarity in understanding the mysteries of their own existence. Women have known for centuries that the cycles of their lives were akin to those of the moon as it makes its journey across the night sky.

Power Place

I was in my thirties when I landed in my "Power Place".

I arrived in West Virginia fairly unceremoniously, by way of Baltimore City. It was the long way around, to say the least; and NOT the scenic route, either. My ex husband had been hurt in a car accident (his first of TWO, if you can believe that) and this was when Jesse was less than a year old. Times were tough in those early days with two kids and a baby and bills we couldn’t pay.
I did what any self respecting daughter does. I ran home to Mommy, family in tow.
